Dan Hoogterp

A senior executive that focuses on driving business value and successful products through technology.  I have a combined visionary and focused execution style.

I have developed this proven approach with a successful track record in large enterprises and startups, across domains including enterprise software products, e-commerce, information retrieval, and web media.  I ratchet up IT from many perspectives, focusing on achieving leverage through incremental improvements that collectively execute a clear vision for IT.  In our leadership roles, we manage both sprints and marathons at the same time, with the same team.  We must meet the daily challenges and near term project needs (sprints), while building the long-term robustness, skills, and sophistication to serve a growing enterprise.

I regularly assess the team in structure and composition.  Building a motivated, collaborative, technically strong team at all levels is central to strong execution in today's complex environments.  Improving IT and the enterprise requires an ongoing cycle of execution that flows repeatedly through assessment, refinement, observation.  This must be coupled to the goals of the business and the overall financial track of the firm.  IT must scale with the firm, help the business scale, while keeping investment levels and costs in line with the stage of the organization.

It is imperative that we learn from successes, near misses, and failures.  We must be diligent in revisiting assumptions.  Successful IT organizations balance engineering, creative, economic, personnel, and other facets over the long run.
